Via Portuense, 879, 00148 Rome, Italy

The one kilometer long “Corviale” in Rome is one of the longest high-rise buildings in Europe. Built at the end of the 1970s, it is a model from a time of great housing shortage in Rome: “Il Corviale” was intended to include not only modern apartments, but also shops, theaters and sports fields. It was supposed to be a utopian living machine called “il Serpentone” – the giant snake. One kilometer long, made of concrete and in the countryside. The building was not finished. There was no property management, no infrastructure in the area, no bus service, no shops in the building. 8,000 people ended up in a green void.
